The important question that has always lingered in your mind is probably, what is the reason for my life? Why am I even here? Is this all there is to life? Why is it that after I have (seemingly) done my very best, mediocre results should come?
That you have successfully executed your plans, done your ground work and background checks, put your very best at it and when it seemed like success was inevitable – it all came back to backfire. Another loss.
Does it ever occur to you to think that when probably loss, and fear and even death sets in that we instead look inward and think perhaps there was something more we could have done and (sadly) we did not? and then the best reaction to that is always inward looking, if only we had detected the problem earlier, if I had gotten the money, sooner. Probably, if they had told us earlier – we could have avoided this happening!
The honest desire of a man is that after he has executed their best, inevitably success is meant to be served and that it does not matter what else comes around, somehow that should be taken care of and nothing else should come in the way of personal success.
It is the perverted human mind to think that there is no force greater than the human’s hard work, well-thought, hard-planned and properly executed ideas that should come and disrupt the tranquility to be enjoyed and the success to be achieved. So we end up murmuring and complaining and start to reach out to protect our own interests and complain and wonder why all of this happens ‘to me’.
Shuttered dreams and wounded hearts are very common with men.
It takes the shuttering of our dreams, the loss of loved ones, the failure of our well-executed plans for us to realize that there is something that we are lacking, something very important. Something that so many have not realized their need of it.
While this is so, man will never allow their dreams to be punctured and distorted and so they seek out to some other way, means to protect their dreams. They take to their own selves.
But somewhere, some place, some time we may have to come to a place of a true recognition of God’s sovereignty. And a true recognition of God’s sovereignty will exclude all murmuring.
And this is evident yet the thought deserves to be dwelt upon.
It is natural to murmur against afflictions, it is natural to murmur against losses, it is natural to complain when we are deprived of those things which we have set our hearts upon.
We regard our possessions as ours unconditionally. We feel that when we have executed our plans with prudence and diligence that we are entitled to success.
And when by dent of hard work we have accumulated a competence, we deserve to keep and enjoy it.
And when we are surrounded by a happy family, no power may lawfully enter the charm circle and strike down a loved one. And if in any of these cases; disappointment, bankruptcy, death actually comes. The perverted instincts of the human heart is to cry out against God.
One thing that is common to one is common to all. Failure, losses, sickness, in-capabilities, and even death. There is one thing that is common to all.
There is only one source of rescue, one way of escape from all of this effects that have befallen man.
All the trouble in the world have a beginning. A place when before there was no such a thing.
God created the world – the heaven and the earth and the fullness thereof (Psalms 24:1) and everything was good. This is a clear picture that before Eden, everything was good and that there was need to toil, no need to struggle.
However, after Genesis 3, things changed and that means that everything else between then and now has always not been good (from man’s point of view). There is always increase in disappointments and fast forward four thousand years (4000 years) after the events of Genesis, God created a solution that has always been around for the past two thousand years (2000 years) [you can add 20 years]. This solution has changed the lives of countless humans, the life of people that held to the beckoning of this one true source of joy, peace and tranquility in the midst of this dark world.
If You want joy, real joy, wonderful joy, let Jesus come into your heart. Your sins He’ll wash away, your nights will turn to day, your life He’ll make it over anew.
This is true in this life and that which is to come. There may never be an end of sorrow – because of the curse that prevails on this earth, until that day when the Lord returns.
But that is only possible when first, you start on your knees in prayer. By confessing with thy mouth and believing in your heart that Jesus is Lord, then thou shalt be saved (Romans 10:9-10). It is not hard, it is very easy! Simply believe in your heart, and confess.
There is then a peace that is yours to claim as you get to know the Lord more and more. As you keep in company with His word, you get yourself in contact with the church that preaches the word of God.
A peace will take hold of your life to where when the sad happen, when the unplanned happen, you have a source of joy – you lift up your face to heaven and say thy will be done.
But when, the one who by grace has recognized God’s sovereignty, such murmuring is silenced and instead there is a bowing to the divine will and an acknowledgement that God has not afflicted us nearly as sorely as we deserve.
A true recognition of God’s sovereignty will avow God’s perfect right to do with us as He wills. The one who bows to the pleasure of the Almighty will acknowledge His absolute right to do with us as seemeth Him good.
If He chooses to send poverty, if he chooses to send sickness, if He chooses to send domestic bereavements, if He chooses to shutter our dreams: Even while the heart is bleeding at every poor, we shall say, shall not the judge of the earth do right?
Often there will be a struggle – for the carnal mind remains in the believer to the end of his earthly pilgrimage. But though there maybe a conflict within ones’ breast, never-the-less to the one who has really yielded himself to this blessed truth, there will presently be heard that voice saying as of old it was said to the turbulent Gennesaret, “Peace be still” and the tempestuous flood within will be quieted.
And the subdued soul will lift a tearful but confident eye to heaven and say, Thy will be done.
A true recognition of God’s sovereignty causes us to hold our plans in abeyance to God’s will. It makes us recognize that the porter has absolute power over the clay and molds it according to his own pleasure. It causes us to heed that admonition now or less so generally disregarded. “Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go to such a city continue there a year and buy and sell and get gain, for as ye know not what is on the morrow. For what is your life, it is even a vapor that appeareth today for a little time and vanishes away.
What ye ought to say, the Lord willing we shall live and do this or that.
Yes, it is to the Lord’s will that we must bow. It is for Him to tell us where we shall live – whether in America or in Africa. It is unto Him to determine under what circumstances I shall live, whether mid-wealth or poverty – whether in health or sickness. It is for Him to say how long I shall live, whether I will be cut down in youth – like the flower of the field or whether I shall continue for three score and ten (70) years!
To really learn this lesson is by grace – to attain to a high form in the school of God. And even when we think we have learned it, we just fail it again and again that we have to go back and relearn the lesson all over again.
